I was given a list of people to interview, and I really wanted to have a bit of time to sit and talk with SinMachine. SinMachine is a gothic designer, that delves into the fashion side of fetish, vinyl, leather, and all things black and shiny. Well not all things, but you get the idea. His work is very well done and one could call it the high fashion of Goth.

Sin came in dressed in his own creations, a slick pair of sleek black shiny pants that seemed to catch the light, as well a shiny pair of boots,. His skin was pale, like the color of cold ivory on a gloomy day and his hair was wild as his designs, sharp, spiked and shiny. He burst in with a spark in his tone, full of life and he seemed more than ready to do the interview when he beamed, “Hey hey there, how goes it?” I replied with a thank you and how he was doing, to which he replied. ” Having a hell of good day lol thanks ~”

SinMachine was not a scary replication or a angry dark person, he was a honest, real person, not off-putting. He has a real talent for these types of designs that create that aura of dark and foreboding.

I had asked SinMachinie what he referred his style to and he said,” I call it Gothic/fetish style more or less. I am honestly not fashion savvy at all offline here but what I create on IMVU are things I really enjoy seeing others wear. I like it shiny, kinky at times and of course dark.” I was curios so I had to ask him if he feels what he has made also describes himself I his own real life. He answered ” -laughs and rubs brow- well I am quite reclusive in real life and I find IMVU, like many us, as a great outlet to let that inner beast shine. Does I have a darker streak? Let’s say I dabble in the fetishes and leave it at that.”

Hi attention to detail was great so I asked him what drives his creativity, was it something he had seem outwardly or that came from a thought. He said, ” Mostly boredom at work where in my free time I just pick up a pen and start sketching away. A lot of it is just from my imagination, a dark basement club, and others are inspirations from pieces I find online and adore.”

Most creators I have met an interviewed came online and almost jumps started into creating his story was a little different, when ask what started him down this path to Gothic greatness he told me, ” I started out making banners in the contest forum and a friend said I should try devving…and since we always listen to our friend, good or bad, I gave it a whirl and failed hard at an Easy T. Then I quit. Then I came back and put some real balls into it and the passion just burned from there.” So trial and error are not uncommon in all skilled creators.

I asked him what his favorite creation was he said, ” Oh snap, um….these pants -slaps palms on them- Took about 60 attempts and 4 months to finally figure out how to get the image out of my head and into pixels. Overall though, a lot of my favorite work is in RubberDollzInc. That’s some sweat.” He then told me more about RubberDollzInc, “Its a project GrimWorm and myself started a few years back. We really didn’t see the fetish gear we -wanted- to drool upon so took it upon ourselves to make it happen. It consists of 100% latex/rubber fetish wear for men and women. And not just a shiny jumpsuit.”

I knew of GrimWorm, and have always been a fan of his work, seeing he worked with such skill, I asked him if he ever encountered anything that was just too hard to create? He said, “All the time. I’ll get an idea and either cant find a male mesh (or combination of meshes) to make it happen or I just don’t have the skill for it. We all gotta keep growing and I appreciate the challenges and failures.”

I then asked him what defines customer service for him? SinMachine replied with, ” I am at the mercy of my customers, all of us creators are and my dears I say that with affection of course. To me I signed up to be a creator, to provide a service and experience through my art. If someone is not getting the feeling I get from a piece, if they find something has broken and I can fix it, or get chain happy on the back button and are double charged I’m here to fix it. Period. This place can’t be a stressor, its supposed to be fun and a release. With that said, I’d keep my customers happy than have a army with pitch forks waiting for the online green.”
I then asked him what we could expect to see from him in the future, and he answered, ” Pieces that are better than the last and more elaborate, detailed work. My style wont change though, you naughty kids.” This made me giggle a bit, and I then finished off by asking him if he took any requests, he whispered, “If time permits and the request is up my alley. I’m not making rainbow pantyhose.”

SinMachine is not only a great designer he is humble, to the point, and a very nice person. I highly suggest you take the time and visit his catty, and here is the link to do just that!

Interview With EliaDesigns

Interview with Elia Designs

I had the opportunity to sit and talk with Elia Designs.  Elia came in wearing an attractive slightly metallic sheen halter that hung around a pair of dark shorts.  She paired this off with a simple but well done pair of boots that tied the entire ensemble together with a casual elegance.  This was topped off with the matching head band that clasped her hair back loosely into a very subtle pony.  This gave her volume and played the outfit to bring it a bit of a more natural girl feel.  Her make was sparse, but with a clean, cream based complexion her smoky eyes took center stage and drew you into her gorgeous face and high cheek bones.  I would call this look fresh, classy  yet casual.

Her work has been always a bit on the whimsical side.  I immediately recognized some of the outfits she  made as several I have bought myself .  She took her place after we made pleasantries, and began to tell me about her work.  Elia is a well known clothing designee.  She says most of the designs she makes are for women, totaling around 90%.  I have noticed this natural trend to make what you would wear, Elia does this very well.  Her clothing has a very delicate appeal, and many of her pieces hold great detail,\; for example, the lines cusp and curve around the bust line, and abdomen.  Very intricate scroll work, that reveals just enough skin and is draped with sheer and soft material. Using these combinations sometimes gives very ethereal appeal to her clothing.

I had asked Elia about her technique and she responded by letting me know although she makes many textures herself, she does employ the use of full listened textures for use in her creations.  A full license gives the creator the right to use a template containing textures on their creations; however it usually stipulates that the owners of the textures may not redistribute the textures directly for resell.  In other words, you can use it to make something you just can’t but a texture and then turn around and resell it like it was your own.  Elia also let me know that she relies on photo shop and well as her wacom tablet.  I had to ask what a Wacom Tablet was, and she let me know by responding, “it is a graphic tablet with a pen, I am using it instead of the mouse as you can draw way more exact.”  I also asked if she had any advice for aspiring creators, Elia said, “The most important thing is to be yourself, unleash your own creativity, work hard and be patient, don’t try to copy others just be yourself and try to live your dreams with every piece you create.”

I like to ask the creators what they call their style of design, Elia responded with. “well this is kind of difficult question to answer… my style is somehow unique I am trying to mix fantasy and real into my clothing, I like to play with different textures and effects, though all in all you can say that my style is classy with a hint of darkness and sometimes craziness.” I then went on to ask her if she feels if any of this style carries over to her , she answered with, “I think it kinda reflects the dreams of a lot women and girls and for sure there is something from my inner self in every creation, the wish to be a princess and to be unique and not a part of the crowd.”

There is another question I like to ask the creators, if they have a “favorite” design that they feel is exceptional and Eli indicated there will be such a piece upcoming in this fashion week.  All the more reason to keep an eye out for what is on its way.

I asked Elia if she cared to share a little about her real life with us.  Elia told me, “l over this continent, I am currently living in Germany happily in a relationship with a wonderful man. I am in real chaotic as hell and I think it takes a lot of patience sometimes to not jump at my throat *laughs* Well I also love my little havanese puppy and my horse, they always manage to pull me down and give me some relaxing time.”  I asked if she ever had trouble balancing her virtual work with her own real life, and she replied, ” I try it somehow, I am working during the days on my creations and spending the afternoons and evenings without my pc normally. There are sometimes exceptions like today but I am trying to not forget my friends and family who have their life in this game called real life ;)”  I thought that was very good advice.

Our time was winding  down, so I asked Elia what we could expect to see form her in the future?”well currently I am trying to learn 3d, that means that I hope to create some meshes in some time. There will be for sure more of my gowns but I am also trying to make some short dresses and to balance the GA (General Audience) and AP (Adult Pass) products more.”

As Elia and I wrapped up the session, I asked her what does customer service mean to you? it is something very very important as customers are the ones who can make you shine or fall, a creator or designer should never forget it in my eyes. I am trying to listen and to be close to my customers and answer every single message.”  Elia added, “I hope your readers will visit the trend fashion week, I am sure every single show will be a blast, naughty and her team doing a great work in preparing and organizing ;).”

With that we brought our interview to a close as she went off to chase after her havanese puppy, who seemed to have discovered her waste receptacle. 🙂

Interview With Advent Seed

Once in a while we get a rare peek at a legend. A Creator or mesher who has helped to change the face of the metaverse. Advent seed is such a person. I caught up with Advent a few weeks back, he took some time out of his busy schedule to sit with me for a while a discuss what he does and how he feels about some things. It was a rare privilege indeed.

I asked Advent how he got started in IMVU, and he said, “It was my friend, he invited me to IMVU and I found it a nice place to show myself. IMVU is an open platform, I can build anything I like and it surely could tell me the way how people love my ideas through market. Besides that, many great people I met in IMVU taught me many trick about how to make my products and run market. I think I own them thanks, lol. ” It was apparent that Advent was a humble person right from the moment we began talking.

We talked about some of his latest creations and the things he has made in the past. I asked Advent what inspires him when he builds? He replied, “From the very beginning, my plan for AdventSeed is “give you a UNIQUE home”. So I always go for some outstanding villas which have unique designs and special luxury feelings, they are my major source of ideas. And if I watched some nice TV programs or movies, I would build according to them, and comes out a theme bundle. Besides all these above, I may try describe my own wild dream though IMVU, if you see something weird in my catalog, there they are, lol.” It was surprising to find the depth of his talent, able to design from mere glance of a home on the television. I remember buying several of his mansions and even trying my hand at deving a few. I always appreciated the design and attention to his mesh detail.

It then perked my curiosity and I asked Advent, What do you think is the hardest thing to do when you make your creations? He answered,”Well, to me, the most difficult part is to combine the beautifulness and the stuff practical to chatting, make them into a scene that looks nice and useful. I’m always trying to make it.” This meant to me that he worked very hard to create this every time he designed a new mesh, which is very admirable. I asked him if anything he had tried was too difficult to make, he said, “Well, when I come to IMVU, everything is so difficult for me, lol. Thanks to my friends, they always lend me their hands and help me. Own them my thanks! Even now, I’m still not good at the fields but Rooms/Furniture/Animations. Well, I think some concentration is needed, so maybe I won’t go any wider.”

I still in awe to this master creator just had to ask him if anything he ever created he considered master work? “I do believe everything would have its unique feature, so it’s never easy to say one thing is perfect. I have a friend; he’d ever passed me an idea that sometimes fault would be the place that shine. I take it as the fault would push you to make better ones, lol, hope I got it right. Hardly I can say is there some day I would call my builds are all perfect, if I do, I must lost my target and power to continue. Hope I won’t have this kind of situation.” to me this meant that he feels that finding fault in his works meant that this makes him try harder still which helped him excel as a creator. This is a rare trait, but one I am seeing more and more in major achievers of the art.

I asked Advent if he had any advice for aspiring creators who wanted to be learn more about creating and he indicated that he would make some tutorials in the future for creators. I then asked him if he had one piece of advice to give any new creator who wants to achieve greatness what would it be. He said,”Follow the path of your dream, be the builder of your realm.”

I asked him if we could learn more about the real Advent behind the avatar, he was a bit reluctant at first but then revealed, “Well, I’m nothing but a designer with little dream. Well, I’d like to talk about one thing I’d encountered in IMVU. I’d once thought IMVU is solely a place to show out my little dreams. And the story is happened when I have a “Sharing for Caring” event. One lady bought my Romantic Farm, and later wrote me a long letter. In her letter, she told me she loves the farm, and it just calls back her childhood memory with her younger brother, who is dead. This letter moves me. Through the letter, I saw there is love between the metaverse and real life, they are always connected. So I never take it easy to make my builds, even these are all data in virtual world. I would care about the experience and feeling that my products made to users.” I then asked him if any of the things he created carry over into his real life, he joked “kisses”. I laughed and then asked Advent if he learned anything while working in the metaverse which carried over to his daily life? He answered, “IMVU is like a big family to me, I’d been helped by many friends (most of them are derives). They got me really great number of ideas. Their help gave me power and fun. Thank you all!”

I asked if there was a chance he took requests and was surprised by his answer. “Generally I don’t, but some creative idea with market potentials. Ideas are all welcomed.” He then went on to indicate after I asked if there were any fees,”If you got the idea nice enough, I’m willing to help. All free and I will gift you one after I finished. ;)”
